Interestingly enough as a volunteer for the cub scout program I attended Round table last night which is a meeting held for all leaders in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. I visited with an employee that works up at the Scout Store inquiring what she thought about the National Board considering changing their policy and allowing gays to be a part of the program. She said all employees were asked to not share their views on the subject. This didn't surprise me at all. Their views could cause people to assume the whole council feels the way they do or influence views on others. After she stated this, she politely asked me what I thought. Having three sons who are Eagles and who live each day striving to follow the scout oath and live by high values I expressed my concern for the wicked, changing world we live in. I said the Church, being Scouts biggest supporter loves all people regardless of their sins. They have wards set up for gay and lesbian with strong leaders and councilors who lead and direct, inspire and teach gospel truths that help them fight their tenancies and live righteously. Many homosexuals fight their "thorn in the side" each day and live clean moral lives. I concluded that the Church would probably support the same angle in scouts...teaching young men to be firm in values, deny themselves of wicked acts, and live in a way that they can be strong men of character. They would probably pull out of the program if the National Council decided to change their policy. She got very upset and said Thomas S. Monson was on board with the decision to change the policy. I thought it interesting that she would say something that wasn't true. I checked into it further and realized the gay group in efforts to change policy is portraying half-truths to sway people into thinking the church is on their side. So....truth will never change. We know this! Now my opinion on this issue...First homosexuality, then bestiality, then what? I have tolerance for people who are gay, but that doesn't mean I agree with them. It doesn't mean I change my belief to accommodate them. It's interestingly true that the groups that rant and rave about being discriminated against or not tolerated are the same groups that lie, berate, and demean those who don't agree with their beliefs. If they want a Eagle Scout opportunity then they should create their own award consisting of their values and name it whatever they like...perhaps the Sage Chicken Award!
As a side note these are my sons who are Eagles. The Scout program is not just camping and pocket knives....It's moral, clean values that turn boys into men as they deny themselves and learn to be strong on the inside. This is our futures only hope. Good Leadership!

This is good! What it boils down to is money. The BSA is caving into large corporate donors who have threatened to withdraw support if gays are not allowed. Religious organizations against the open and practicing gay lifestyle cannot possibly support this alteration to the BSA program. Thus, a traditional program designed to teach leadership, self-reliance, love of God, and a conservative moral code will be corrupted. And without support of those organizations that prop the infrastructure, it will assuredly crumble.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that the BSA has decided to wait until spring to make a declaration one way or the other on this issue. Note that the world-wide Friends of Scouting drive is just around the corner. Money sails the ship...
