A Day in the Life of a Mother

Yeah the kids have the day off from school.  That's great because we can get some projects done before the upcoming weekend which happens to be very busy due to our oldest son giving his farewell talk on Sunday.
This also means in a nutshell...fitting our favorite family activities into a very few days due to him working long days and not having much free time.  I'm not complaining. I couldn't be more proud of him for 1. wanting to serve the Lord for two years, and 2. filling his account with money before he goes! But, knowing his time is short, we went to the movies last night, ate out, skiing the Saturday next, and rock climbing this Saturday.  Not to mention we'll have a house full of guests on the weekend to see him off.  I decided the food served I'd keep easy.  I've already made 6 loaves of poppy seed bread. Today I'm making 6 loaves of the double chocolate chip bread, and 4 dozen mini muffins. Then I just need to dip the strawberries in chocolate on Saturday, and make the croissants for the chicken salad sandwiches. I'm just serving water with lemon, and making three simple salads to serve with it...blackberry chicken salad, pistachio salad, and potato salad. Many kind people have offered to help and so they are all bringing cookies!  You gotta have a cookie tray!!

Boy, I really got off on a tangent.  Anyway, back to a day off....my little eight year old is making fabric balls for the children in 3rd world countries who don't have toys.  This is great. It's a great opportunity to teach him to sew while he has such a desire to learn.  As a side note,  I love that boys learn these skills...sewing, cooking, and laundry.  It makes them great men and husbands someday!

Also, I'm helping the kids put together essays of why they love their city.  It's a contest our youth council is doing.  We do it every year in conjunction with valentines day. Since I'm the adviser for youth council our kids get really involved in the community events. Anyway, I love to get my children thinking and their hearts expanded in gratitude for all they have.

And for project number three... I'm taking my son N Gator on a date.  I take them all on dates one at a time rotating through. The child that gives the family home evening lesson on Monday goes on a date with me, their mom, on Friday.  Friday he had a late practice for indoor track so we get to go today! On his date we'll eat, and after lunch he will be taking around resumes and filling out applications! He bought a car and has no money to pay for gas.  He is seeking any job opportunity to be found.

We'll see how the day goes....
I also fit piano lesson in for four of the children that were ready to pass off their songs! My motto is just go through your song 5 times a day. It develops discipline. My children that love it- practice far more and it pays off. The ones that don't still learn to sight read the notes.  But the greatest blessing from this is the self-motivation they're learning.

Well, it's the next day and I'm finally blogging. It was a great day!  I love life as Mothering.  I couldn't possibly write everything a mother does because it involves way too much. But, little by little this blog will journal a small portion of it!
